Scheduling Breast Augmentation Before Your Wedding

Are you getting married and hoping to receive a breast augmentation before your wedding? If so, we’d like to first wish you congratulations on your engagement! Secondly, we want to offer a few pieces of advice in regard to how far in advance you should schedule your procedure to make sure your breasts are completely healed and looking great by the time your big day rolls around.

To provide enough recovery time, our plastic surgeon— Dr. Stafford R. Broumand—generally advises that individuals who are getting married schedule their breast augmentation no later than one month before their wedding day. After the procedure is performed, patients will need to rest for about five days before normal, non-strenuous activities like office jobs, school, and running errands can typically be resumed. That being said, certain physical activities (or even physical contact) that could impede proper healing will need to be avoided for approximately two or three extra weeks. Unfortunately, this generally includes dancing and hugging, both of which are likely to occur at weddings and/or receptions.

In addition to activity restrictions, our plastic surgeons recommend scheduling breast augmentation no later than one month out from the date of one’s wedding to allow an ample amount of time for potential bruising and/or swelling to dissipate. Although bruising often disappears within a few days of surgery, the typical time-span for most swelling to resolve is about three to four weeks. At this time, the breasts will likely be very close to their final appearance, allowing patients to look their best in their dream dress.

Something else to consider is that the initial stage of recovery and healing could offer an excellent opportunity to research vendors, put together a guest list, address invitations, and/or take care of other wedding planning to-dos can be completed while resting. Additionally, you will probably want to allow enough time for the majority of swelling in the breasts to subside in the event you have to take your dress in for alterations. For these reasons, allowing as much time between your breast augmentation and wedding date as possible could be very beneficial from a logistical standpoint.

Ultimately, the information provided above is a general rule of thumb for most brides-to-be, and the best time to schedule a breast augmentation prior to one’s wedding date will be unique to every individual.
