Understanding Neuromodulators and Fillers

Are you starting to notice pesky lines, wrinkles, or volume loss in your face? If so, you may be able to benefit from fillers or neuromodulators, two of the most popular non surgical treatment options for addressing signs of facial aging.  With a new year can come a new, more youthful-looking you! Read on to learn more about these treatment options, and which one can help to address your signs of aging.

Fillers

At 740 Park Plastic Surgery, we offer a large array of dermal fillers, including Juvederm products, Belotero Balance, Radiesse, Restylane, and Sculptra. Most dermal fillers are formulated with hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring substance in the body that attracts and binds water, adding volume under the skin. Fillers can be used to smooth laugh lines and wrinkles, and add lost volume to the midface and lips.  Fillers require no downtime and can last between 6 months and two years, depending on the formula.

Neuromodulators

Unlike fillers, neuromodulators such as Botox and Xeomin are made up of Botulinum toxin type A, and work by temporarily relaxing facial muscles, smoothing lines and wrinkles that form when facial expressions are made. This includes lines across the forehead, between the brows, and at the corners of the eyes. Neuromodulators typically last between 3-6 months before a touch-up appointment is needed.
