Our Modern Approach to Breast Reduction

Modern Approach to Breast Surgery

Modern Approach to Breast SurgeryIn the not too distant past, breast reduction surgery was viewed as a deforming, sometimes shameful procedure for women whose excessively large breasts created both physical and psychological issues in everyday life. Throughout mainstream culture, the operation was not widely accepted like it is today, and the decision to undergo surgery typically needed to be made in secret and kept completely confidential before, during, and after treatment. Thankfully, times have changed, and the surgical environment has significantly evolved. In fact, breast reduction techniques have been refined and improved so much so that the procedure is frequently considered both aesthetic and reconstructive in its indications.

At 740 Park Plastic Surgery, our board certified plastic surgeons – Dr. Daniel Y. Maman and Dr. Stafford R. Broumand – have developed what they refer to as a modern breast reduction approach, enabling them to treat breasts of all sizes. Of course, some women who seek breast reduction at our practice fit the traditional description of having excessively large breasts (massive macromastia) that cause severe neck and back pain, deep bra strap indentations, skin irritation underneath the breasts, and other common complications. However, a large number of our patients have moderate to large-sized breasts that have lost volume and/or started drooping over time, particularly after childbearing. In many instances, these women are not solely dissatisfied with the appearance of their breasts; they also struggle with certain exercises (running, cycling, etc.) as well as finding clothing that fits well.

By employing the most modern, least invasive techniques available, Dr. Broumand and Dr. Maman are able to successfully bridge the gap between a medically therapeutic breast reduction and an aesthetically beneficial breast lift. In essence, they approach every breast reduction case as a cosmetic breast lift while striving to attain exceptional, natural-looking outcomes. As a result, our patients are not only able to achieve a physical relief from the weight of overly heavy breasts, but their breasts are also smaller and more rejuvenated in their overall appearance.

Ultimately, breast reduction surgery is an art that requires a keen aesthetic eye as well as extensive expertise in both cosmetic and reconstructive breast surgery. Our doctors take great pride in being able to offer all of this and more to patients seeking to alleviate the physical and psychological strains of disproportionately large breasts.
