Liposuction Recovery: What to Expect

Immediately following the liposuction procedure, some of the most common side effects that may be experienced include bruising, swelling, and tenderness in the treated regions. Due to our plastic surgeons’ careful technique during surgery, these temporary symptoms are generally minor in nature and tend to resolve relatively quickly without issue.

A significant amount of pain after liposuction is very rare, though some degree of localized discomfort may be present initially. If necessary, this can be adequately managed with over-the-counter medicine or narcotic medication prescribed by our doctors until it has fully diminished.

The majority of patients feel comfortable returning to normal, non-strenuous jobs and other daily routines after approximately one week. To provide the body enough time to fully heal, however, all strenuous physical activities will typically need to be avoided for a few more weeks. This includes vigorous exercise, lifting objects over 10–15 pounds, contact sports, and anything else that may place strain on the targeted treatment areas.

Ultimately, every individual heals differently, so the exact recovery time and experience will vary by patient. Throughout the process, our plastic surgeons and staff will be available to answer questions, address any concerns, and monitor progress to ensure healing is proceeding as swiftly and uneventfully as possible.
